You can always trust the BBC

Flag burning in SwedenAfter a prolonged gestation period, the government has come up with draft regulations amending the planning laws which prohibit the flying of the EU flag without specific planning permission.

Pursuit of illegal flags has provided harmless entertainment to the Eurosceptic community, much to the annoyance of the EU commission, and there can be little doubt that the primary purpose of what will become new regulations is to allow the ring of stars to be flown more freely.

However, you would get nothing of this from the BBC report. An incidental effect of the regulations will be to remove the prohibition on flying multiple flags, and the requirement that they should be flown from vertical flag poles. And guess what the BBC majors on?

Still, the regulations will at least provide more opportunities for less harmless entertainment (pictured).
