Noted By Madame Defarge - 5

In the tradition of Madame Defarge, we continue to record the 274 MPs who gave away £9.8 billion of our money, with their votes. The next in our Hall of Shame is Danny Alexander, a Lib-Dim supposedly representing the constituency of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.

He has a fairly substantial majority of 8,765, which perhaps says something for the Highland Scots – and is a good advert for Scottish independence (or would be if English MPs were any better). Currently, he is Chief Secretary to the Treasury, implausibly claiming to be "working to put Highland values of fairness and responsibility at the heart of Government policy for the whole UK".

Mr Alexander's facebook profile is here. He is another one of those MPs who have never had a proper job, having read – while moving his lips, no doubt - Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford. After this, he "worked" as a press officer for the Scottish Liberal Democrats before spending four years at the European Movement.

Then he worked as Director of Communications for the euroslimes in the Britain in Europe campaign and in 2003 was appointed the Head of Communications for the Cairngorms National Park Authority before becoming an MP in the 2005 election.

Clearly, Mr Alexander is happy with the idea of giving our money away to foreigners, and would therefore have been quite at ease tramping through the lobby to vote to give the IMF another £9.8 billion. And he is quite keen that we should delay our retirement and increase pensions payments, to pay for this largesse.

Well, with that power comes responsibility, and little Danny's personal share of the smash and grab he sanctioned is £36 million, which he now owes us. He can, therefore, now consider himself Noted By Madame Defarge (NBMD). The knitting grows longer.
