Given the record snow conditions we have seen in ski resorts around the world, it takes a giant leap of faith for The Observer to report today that, "Ski property faces meltdown as global warming chills the market."
Journalist Graham Norwood is trying to tell us that, "Rental income will melt away if scientists are right about low-lying resorts in the Alps" – thanks to a long-term shortage of snow. The long-term prospects for chalet owners are worrying, he writes.
This sort of thing would give journalism a bad name, if it had any name worth talking about. As it is, it simply reinforces the impression that these people live on another planet, entirely divorced from reality.
