Who is Mr Euro?

There was much excitement earlier this month when Jean-Claude Juncker, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg was appointed as the representative of the eurozone. He was immediately nicknamed Mr Euro by the media, though his exact responsibilities remain unspecified.

At least one person has proclaimed himself publicly to be mystified by the appointment. Jean-Claude Trichet, the recently appointed President of the European Central Bank said:

“As far as the currency is concerned, I am evidently ‘Mr Euro’.”
