An unwelcome distraction

Given the intensity of the strategic debate on Afghanistan being conducted in Washington, the "Dannatt affair" over here is actually something of an unwelcome distraction, occupying more space in the media than it actually deserves. I had, therefore, not intended to do a detailed review.

However, The Guardian adds to the sum of human knowledge by pointing out a discrepancy between Cameron's speech text and his actual delivery, when he referred to Gen Dannatt's position in the House of Lords.

Then, as further information emerges, Cameron's decision to take on the general is looking more and more shaky. Gradually, some of the commentators are beginning to share some of our views on what The Sun calls, the Army "legend". We look at some of the latest developments in what is turning out to be a political minefield for Cameron.
