Don't give them ideas

It is bad enough having the Euro-luvvies reinterpret the results of the referendums but Guardian columnist Simon Hoggart is on very dangerous grounds when he extends their ideas into different territory. He writes:

What part of "non" don't these people understand? I've loved the sight of EU panjandrums explaining how the referendums don't count because the electorate were voting for the wrong reasons. You could apply that to any poll. Suppose Labour were voted out of office in 2009. Prime minister Brown could say: "It is clear that people voted against us because of fears about the NHS. In fact, the latest statistics show that waiting lists are down, so they were mistaken. We shall ignore the result."

He may be writing in jest but it's better to play it safe and not give our own politicians ideas. You never know where it might lead.

In fact, it's amazing Clinton didn't think of it.
