Straws in the wind?

In an intriguing report from the Slovakian RSI news agency (30 April) comes a hint that the small member states of the EU are sharply coming into line on the constitution.

This particular straw in the wind originates from Foreign Affairs Minister Eduard Kukan who, to date, has been siding with Spain and Poland on sticking to the Nice voting formula.

However, now that the "awkward squad" seems to be backing of - although don't bank on it - Kukan is now saying: "If Spain and Portugal can agree with Germany and France to make decisions via double majority, we, of course, will agree too."

Mind you, as they say, a week is a long time in politics, and the IGC summit is not until 17 June.
